Fresh loud black eyes, which
squeeze radiant wet
streams shut
for the first time, naked
in white palms, then
open, open calmer and
recognize me—her
daddy. I say her name—I whisper
to mommy’s condensing pupils,
which loosen from hell
to joy: She’s
here; she’s come to join us.
