Empty Spaces

It was now-
the moment right before
our love combined
that my body seemed
to hold it's breath.
Instinct told my mouth to
breathe,
but it was not I
that had stopped breathing-
for I
was gasping for air.
They almost feel the same,
if you are not paying attention.
The world around us turns,
and we float in that
space that was empty
but a moment before,
and is now the fullest place on earth.
This space exists only for an instant
and then, as the world slows
and our hearts quicken-
our eyes meet
and our bodies converge,
the space that was once empty,
now full,
is devoured by the air
that we breathe.
Silence stares me in the face
and the moment is gone,
but the lingering air
feels like you
and me
and I never forget
how we floated there,
above it all.
