Ask for strength
& get weakness in return.

Ask for courage
& turn into a coward.

Ask for ability to change,
& find it far more near impossible to alter.

Ask for a moment of silence,
& get nothing but distraction and noise.

Ask for ability to alter one's view of life,
& remain a subjective, cranky hypocrite who everyone hates.

Ask for God to listen,
& the earth begins to seem empty.
