Tooker's Subway Syndrome

I wander inside its steel skin and become yet
another hostage of 'Tooker's Subway syndrome'.
A stranger among strangers passing thru
catacombs under the asphalt streets
of a metropolis without a heart.
Too quickly I've grown used to the reverberating
sound of air shifted by subway train
as it is thwarted into darkness,
a harsh accompaniment
to jumbled mumblings of other
passengers in the car.
This is a place of Limbo, diseased, between worlds,
transit, temporary, and yet more real
than the world left above...
I dread being here. I belong here.
