thinking of you

today I took the 4:50 train
and stole out of Grand Central
almost an hour early
and in plenty of time
to catch the last bulbs of day
shining before giving out
to a dull rattle when they shake
and then it's dark
but tonight I saw the balance
of daytime's dance with twilight
and the skies were actually lavendar
and pink amidst the forty degrees
just promising that spring
will be here shortly
as the train chugged on
occasionally failing to be guided
by the law of the laying tracks
and bounced instead from
side to side, screaching furiously
in rebellion at the tracks
so beautiful the stillness
in that time of day
and the skies were
actually shades of purple
making me glad I cheated the night
from taking the extra hour
from the day
