Leaving Yesterday

letting go is never easy
it's a pain too deep for ease
like the suffering of mankind
or losing faith in things you believe

letting the past go free is nearly impossible
at times when you need it so
yet, somehow you know you'll be better off
once you've finally let it go

for, tomorrow isn't yesterday
the future is far from past
living for what might have been
won't help to make it last

how can you throw the past away
to move on with your life
when a love you thought was right
became all wrong before your eyes

and there was absolutely nothing
you could say or do to change
the way your heart and soul felt
when your life then rearranged

nothing at all; no action
no word to comfort in any way
for the hurt you're feeling now
from leaving yesterday
