it passses so quickly

thirty five years ago today
a woman was in labor
she was barely more than a child
and doing hard time to bring
this child- now a woman
in to the world

I think of her effort
and remembering having my child
I know the sacrifice a mother makes
to carry and deliver life
and cultivate love and grace
and today I celebrate my mom

and I revel in my motherhood
that in 3 more days from today
started 10 years ago when I
laid laboring for the love
of a beauty I named Cory
and her life makes mine amazing

thirty five years ago today
I got my first opportunity to experience
the blessing of living a life
that is beautiful and full of possibility
and I'm thankful this chance to discover
what my reflection looks like
as it bounces off of humanity
