I Sleep At Last

how many nights has the black sky mocked me

\"you'll never rest again

as sure as earth and fire

the flowing calm of water and wind\"

and as my bed of stone awakenings

that break me down until I stand

bruised and ill found colors

painted under eyes again

\"you will not rest; I won't let you\"

the wicked darkness scorns

I lay upon rose petaled sheets

but rest not in their thorns

the bite of too much space

I thought I'd suffocate on less

yet as the moments turn to years

the room I need is less

\"I will not let you rest\"

the evil coal of malice spars

If I could only close my eyes

without the mocking of the stars

my head I lay down in desperation

longing for just one moment's peace

and become buried in the liberation

that once felt like relief

\"curse you, you will not rest\"

chants the hollow empty sky\"

but I refuse to falter

to the taunting of the night

tonight I sink in to the calming

of your sweetest warm embrace

I cast nightfall to the pitt of hell

relaxing in your grace

and sleep at last...
