tonight is the temptation of winter
seductively dark at early hours
and even the fall changes heart
and wants to go outside
to play in the snow

Christmas is close at hand
and all the hopeful people
are longing to rip open love
and find the inside as lovely
as the outside of the package

I have seen this time of year
enough times to understand
why people grow so melancholy
and lonely for the things
that make them feel safe

tonight is the temptation of winter
where icy whispers of secrecy
and lonely enchantment entice
all to give way to the season
and light a fire to warm the hearts of man
