like a rubber band
stretched beyond its limit

tells me you are
thinking

The thousands of miles
between us
collapse and
I'm at your
bedside

you're sleeping
soundly
eyes rolling gently
I reach out to touch
your face

my eyes burn
trying to blink
away the tears
I find myself
staring into the halogen
desk lamp
