now know

now know
time goes
so slow as
far as time
goes no one
knows because
when you look at
the future it changes
so there's no looking at
it, only thinking about it or
dreaming about it.

now know
body grows
as old as
you can
imagine.

now know
as the water
drops down drain
the seconds trip one
after another. and some-
thing as mundane as chew-
ing seems fascinating when
you look at it closely and
think about it.

now know
time goes
as river flows
as rhymes stop
as hearts beat
as sighs leap

now know
time is relative
so repetitive

now know
the ashtray
fills up with
disgust and
just one gust
of wind through
the wind-
ow and
now an
-other
second
passes

now know
the next;
our hour
the nest

now know time
in many directions
all at once and you can
get lost in life and get
caught in life and yet
the lines can move
in other directions

now know my time
know now my time

now know time as multi-
faceted - falling as if
in drops one after
another down a
drain or also
those moments
of time wherein
the water sticks
to your skin and
adds to who you
are - drops of
past moments
making you who
you are and yet
you are always
who you are at
the core and it
seems simple
but it's so
complicated.

now know
through this
poem the pain
of being so close
to describing some-
thing or feeling some-
thing and having it slip
away ... tender grasp.

now know with a tender grasp
is the best way to hold onto
life as it ...

... sees fit to change,
to bend, to alter, to
change its course ...

now know the scene
now see the play
now play the sea
now know the between
now the seconds
now the water
now the sound
now the sky filled
with end of the world
light that's surely never
been seen before like this
poking through clouds as if
a laser penetrating the
atmosphere to earth
looking for the now
and how to know
the existence
of ones made
up of so many
drops of water
so many seconds
of time adding up
into who we are.

now know the
way time weighs
on you or you
think it weighs
on you when
really it's the
opposite and
you find your
way in your
waking life
dreams seem
simply to be
what's needed.

now know the
confusion now
know the know
-ledge of others
leads to the chasm
of self into which
tourists ride donkeys
looking for something
to make the lack of air
conditioning worth it
for them and not finding
it anywhere they look.

now know the poet's eyes.
