words not faces

words not faces,
time not places,
space not play-
fulness of the
moon in tune
with life that
makes you
swoon at
the sound
and it reso-
nates across
both space and
time like ripples in
the fabric of all some
see, all that some know.
such sad lives they must
live or maybe perhaps ig-
norance is bliss and to
escape from this you
strive for what every-
one else strives for -
day to day nothing
special, no way to
say ... sway and
swoon to the
tune in the
room as
the phone
never buzzes
never rings, and
never is quite able
to let people under-
stand him. they can
-not stand him. they
cannot withstand
him. the brim of
the hat turned
up slightly not
in a fashion
statement
but a lack
thereof.

walking.
tense and
terse. verses
fall from his mind
all the time, but they
are just words, not
face to face time.

it's all in knowing
where you fit and
how you fit and
demanding that
you are special
no matter what
the others say,
the ones who
just want to
play, just
want to
slay.

words not faces in
comfortable places

Cool, kpaul

I like the feel of this poem, it's not only a joy to read, it's fun to say out loud.

Speaking of that, I noticed you also run the Anderson Free Press site. I am a journlaist living and working in Okinawa, Japan, with family in Anderson. I own two houses there, but know little about the area. Are there any active poetry groups there? Regular readings? For years I have been a member of the Eat Write Cafe, a group of poets on Okinawa that met weekly at a bar on a strip in an entertainment center just outside an Air Force Base. We had some really good poets from all walks of life (Marines airmen, teachers, Okinawans, etc.) participating. We also publish an online magazine (www.eatwritecafe.com) that I've let slip a few issues because of work.

Anyway, I will probably retire in the Andeson area some day and am looking for poets to connect with.

I like your site.

cheers,

David
