Movements of the Body

A world, a greenshaded lamp, glowing
as an internal structure of text,
delights in the tongue-slip of words,
explains that the particular conditions of women
have no logic, no material, and because of that
in the dark with the moon drenched
outside his door, a tiny narcissus
pushes off from the underside of water.
The implication is that in language
there is no connection between us,
our provocative glimpse of shared meaning
faces the harbor, a ruined palace.
We are connected by telephone.
Until now, you have not been speaking.

I like this one...

cool imagery.

Its a open-form sonnet, and

Its a open-form sonnet, and I designed it to hinge on the ambiguous grammatical referent of "that" in the clause at the end of line five. In other words, does "that" refer to the argument being forwarded by the undisclosed speaker, or does it refer to the act of the speaker's statement? And why would either lead to the imagery that follows, culminating in the "tiny narcissus"? I certainly don't know if any of this comes across in another person's reading, but thanks for the kind comment Frost.

my pleasure
