churning the eye into butter

the churn is a boneware jar
with a fluttering lid and a dasher

it should be filled with lively vision
then set aside for the light to clabber
in the summer, these sights can be poured up at night
then churned on the following morning

in the winter, your perceptions will best coalesce
if warmed on alternate sides by a stone hearth

it’s important that the clabbered imagery
be churned at just the instant it turns
one test is to roll these images from side to side
then see if they hold together in a single breath

if left too long, the clotted visions curdle and separate
but if churned too soon, the fat won't form
